Attendance

At Firs Hill Primary School it is our legal responsibility to ensure good attendance and punctuality, which are vital if children are to attain their full potential as learners so we aim to promote these at all times.

The school expects parents to:

  • Encourage pupils to attend every day and on time
  • Inform school on the first day for the reason for absence either by telephone call, letter or in person.
  • Arrange holidays and medical appointments out of school hours
  • Collect an absence pass from the school office if they take their child out of school during the school day e.g. for an appointment.

What pupils and parents can expect of school:

  • Efficient and accurate recording of attendance
  • First day contact with parents when absence is unexplained
  • Regular liaison with the Education welfare Officer to support parents and pupils where needed.
  • Registration Procedure

    1. Morning registration is at 8:50 am. Registers are completed by 8:55
    2. If a child arrives in the classroom during the register, the teacher will insert an 'L'by his/her name and they will be recorded as late
    3. If a child arrives after registration (8:55) they should report to the office
    4. For legal reasons, registers are closed at 9:30 am. Children arriving after this time will be given a late absent mark '@' and this will count as a half day absence even though they are in school.
    5. In the afternoon, registers are taken at 12:55 pm (Foundation 2 and KS1) and at 1:10 pm (KS2). The same procedure for a late arrival is adhered to.
