Homework

Home work within the school is promoted as a positive experience for the pupils, linked as clearly , as possible to classroom work. We believe there is an enormous advantage in children spending regular (but initially quite short) periods of time on different learning activities devised by schools as part of a homework programme that supports the work they do in class. At primary level, homework particularly helps children to improve their most important skills like reading, spelling, writing and maths.

Teachers prepare their homework programme as part of their planning. Homework is now perceived as an entitlement - most children enjoy it and often ask for more.

Foundation and Key Stage 1 pupils will bring home a reading folder with a book and a reading diary. Children will be given some Literacy or Numeracy work to complete at home once a week.

Key Stage 2 pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 have homework diaries so that tables, spellings and homework is copied into their diaries on Tuesday. Year 3 are given homework on Wednesday. The children get a week to complete and to return their homework to school.
